Default Muscle Gain vs Fat Loss

I have always heard you can not really do both at the same time. So lets say I have a few pounds to lose right now, and once I do that I want to focus on building muscle back up.

What suggestions would people have so I can effectively drop the 15 pounds I want to lose, without giving up too much muscle mass, and then switch into muscle-building mode hardcore?

Well, don't give up weight training completely, that's my advice.

It's said that a pound of muscle burns roughly an extra 50 calories a day. So someone with an extra pound of muscle should burn off 5 lbs in a year. That sounds like a sweet deal.

Make sure your nutrition is up to par and you're getting enough rest. Other than that, I don't know. Maybe someone here has got the magic bullet for you (and me, too--I'd like to lose some fat pounds).

I think I am going to focus on more cardio and do more high-intensity/high rep training and maybe even circuit training for weights.

I will see how that goes for a few weeks.

Just remember, have fun, and listen to your body. The more positive you feel and keep your attitude, the better your body will react.

i am in that situation as well.i am trying to get a few pounds off without loosing my muscle.i do the usual weight lifting because i believe that it helps keep the muscle on,and after training i do 30 minutes of cardio.
the important thing is not to try to achieve this in a short period of time because to much cardio and to much diet will surely end up in a huge loss of muscle mass

alternating cardio and weightliftying is very good but you should also consider the supps.after a training session you should always take some bcaa's,glutamine creatine and proteins.this combination will realy help you keep the muscle on.
also, you should by a thermogenic.something like Thermodrine from MLO,or unydine from universal nutrition

Yes I agree with Sven, just watch what suppliments you are using. You can adjust the intake for whatever particular goal you have. Good luck!

wouldn't those two things go hand in hand? I'd say don't eat for a few hours after you work out. Then your muscles will start to slurp up all of your fat.

I'd say go for home liposuction. Google it if you haven't heard of it... it's actually really simple, all you need is a butter knife, a vacuum cleaner, and a tarp. I've done it twice with no problem!

In my god-forsaken land, nobody has this luxury you call "fat". Please, realize how fortunate you are! Keep all of your fat molecules, and hesitate to shed them so frivolously.
