Default How much rest is too little?

Hi, first off i want to apologize for asking such a vague question...but meh, im only 16 and someone has to teach me it...my question is this: it is a fact that muscle is only gained during rest. But it is also true that the body responds to the demands placed on it. At what point can you lift too often? I'm im pretty good lifting/running shape.

I have no guidelines as to how hard i should work in order to get the best work out results.

Basically, how hard can i possibly train to get the best results, without overdoing it? i know it sounds dumb, but i want the best muscle results i can possibly gain and i am in fact dedicated to facing the pain to do so. I just don't know when im overdoing it. Thanks.

Well, you came to the right place. Do you have a work out routine right now? You can post it hear and let us critique it.

Generally, I'd say start small and work up. You are right, you don't want to overdo it. But you also want to challenge yourself. Work on one muscle group at a time (ie one per day or work out session) and design your workout routine around that.
