Default crunches vs. sit ups

ok i heard many things i always done sit ups but i heard 2 different stories

1. is that situps are bad for your back. and you should do crunches instead

2. is that crunchs are beter if your wanting muscle ton in your abbs but situps are beter if your just trying to burn fat

would just like some adice. i going to be starting on abbs which i never really put much energy into doing. whats your guys ideas on this?

Yes, I've heard that sit ups are bad for the back as well, but they've never hurt me. I do prefer crunches, though. I believe they are better for the abs. As far as strengthening the abs.

Situps are not bad for your back but it is just painfull to do situps on a hard floor. So if you use a mat or a comfortable area your back will be okay. Also to have strong and toned abs you must also have a strong lower back. You can only decide from personal experience whether you want to do crunches or situps or even both! By the way your ab muscles heal really fast so you can work out your abs more then other muscles in your body but sometimes you must need to lose the fat on top of your abs (Do cardio). One last thing, incorperate other ab workouts in your workout so you wont get 4 packs instead of 6 packs.
Hope this helped you with your decision.
