Currently, weight loss is my #1 goal. I've been doing a lot of cardio. I do my weight training after cardio, then eat or drink some protein immediately after. I'm hoping to maintain muscle while losing weight.
Do you do your cardio before or after weight training? Or do you do cardio on separate days?
I'm with you. I almost always do my cardio...running usually....and then hit the weights. Since my goal is weight loss too at this time, I am most interested in revving up my metabolism to get it into the 'fat-burning' mode. I've noticed that if I go directly into the weights after running, I continue to have aerobic effects.
I just wanted to add along the above lines with Danielle that I'm interested in hearing from the rest of you if you have any input/suggestions on the cardio aspect of training. I, too, am most interested in the weight loss/fat burning aspect of training right now....of course, I include muscle toning with that. Any suggestions to maximize efforts will be gladly taken!
I too do cardio before I do weights. Usually thirty minutes of running/jogging then I like to do thirty of cycling. After that I lift weights and then I like to finish with the treadmill for at least twenty minutes.
If I am going to do both cardio and weights at the same time, I do my cardio last. Not sure which way is better, I just don't like doing the weights after cardio, as I feel like I am under-performing. If I do the cardio last, I go to the limit, and then pretty much leave the gym wiped.
Lately, though, I have been doing cardio in the morning most days, and doing weights in the afternoon.
triumph, that 'cardio in the morning and weights in the afternoon' plan sounds like the best way to do it. I've been doing both together in the morning because I get lazy later on in the day and usually end up skipping weight training altogether.
Ouch! The key word in that last sentence is 'lazy'. I've got to work on that.
I do carido first, only because I know if I do weights first I will likely just leave after finishing with lifting. I think cardio revs me up too and gets me motivated.
It's the same for me. I also like getting my heart rate up as soon as I'm working out which is what cardio does for me. I also view weightlifting as a reward. As soon as I do that hour long cardio I can lift weights, which I prefer to cardio any day.

Yeah when you break it up it does take up an exponentially larger part of the day, but I have a very flexible schedule so it works for me now.
If I were on a more rigid schedule I would only do it once a day.
