Default Good Tasting Protein Powder

Is there such a thing?

Has anyone found a protein drink that tastes at least halfway decent? Or am I stuck mixing mine with syrups and cocoa powder and then swigging it down as fast as possible?

Default Dr. Wheeler's protein powder

I think I posted on this brand of protein powder before, but I wanted you to know that to me and my husband it is by far the best tasting powder we've ever used. You can read more about the ingredients and testimonials on the taste on the web. Not handy in front of me, but you can 'google' him at Dr. Bill Wheeler's Gold Standard protein to get more info. I usually mix it with just water, but last night I used skim milk and it honestly tasted like a great chocolate milkshake.

Thanks for the info. Chocolate milkshake taste--now that's what I'm talking about. With all the advances nowadays you'd think every shake would taste good.

Default know what you mean

Hi Danielle,

I know exactly what you mean. Most of the shakes I've tried and tasted during the last several years have had an almost bitter, or chemical-like taste...I'm not sure what it is, but it never tasted right. This is definitely the closest I've come to the 'real' thing!, especially when mixed with the skim milk.

The choclate shake ones I have tried have all been too chalky for me.

I prefer a vanilla or basic whey and then I will mix it into a fruit smoothie. Works really good. The less taste the protein has the better.

Default same experience

Just like Triumph, I've had that awful chalky taste experience with most of the shakes I've tried in the past. The Dr. Wheeler's gold standard still remains for me as the only one that does not taste disgusting like that. I also actually like the vanilla flavor too, which is unusual for me because I usually stay away from it.

Riggy,

You just drink it straight? My problem with them too is if they are not really cold they taste awful, and if you don't drink them fast they tend to get all clumpy and nasty.

Default how to mix it

I use 2 scoops of the protein powder and mix it with either water or skim milk. The trick is to add crushed ice. I have one of those handy little mixers that fits into the cup and mixes it up really well. The added crushed ice is what froths up the drink so it's really like a shake and not chalky at all. Give it a try!

You reminded me of something. My biggest problem with the powders are the water ones. I have to have the ones with milk or else I can't take them, they just taste too odd.

Like I mentioned earleir though, I have gotten really good at making smoothies. I freeze some fresh fruit (strawberries, bananas, blueberries etc), and then take some freshly squeezed juice (apple or orange), and put them in with the powder, and you have a great drink.

Default sounds good!

Triumph, hi!

I am getting hungry for a shake just reading about your smoothy ingredients...it sounds wonderful! You really can't go wrong with all that fruit. And I'm with you about preference for skim milk versus just water when mixing a regular protein drink. Don't forget the crushed ice ....it really helps!
