| Gym Manners What is a proper amount of time to use a single machine if you know other people are waiting on you. If I am going to use a machine for a while, I will always let someone else work in with me. However the other day I was in a situation to use a machine and I really wanted to use it, and it was the only real exercise I wanted to do at that time for the bodypart, and the guy using it seemed to be doing 20 sets on it, and he would not move away for it or invite anyone else to work in. When I asked to work in, he said he would be done soon, but continued for like 5 more sets.
Is this wrong? How would you have handled it? |

If it was me or someone else using the machine, i've always been able to work in with the other person. Politeness is one of the main rules of the gym. |

| What a great topic! I have never really run into this problem but I know people who have and they get pretty frustrated over the whole deal. |

| For me, if it's obvious that someone's waiting to use the machine, I finish up the set I'm doing then let the person on. But it all depends on wheter or not I've just started or if I've been on the machine for a period of time.
Sometimes I am just feeling like I don't care, I've had a bad day and want some time to have it my way. |

| Movni,
That is true, sometimes I feel like I don't care either and want to be a jerk, but I always end up sharing.
At least we have not digressed into locker room manners yet.

| I generally just do what I need to do for my workout schedule, then get out of there. I don't see the need to be particularly nice to everyone else, but I don't take more than my share of time. |

| That person was definitely rude to you, and that kind of behavior is really unnecessary at the gym. It doesn't take much to show a little courtesy, like asking the person if they'd like to work in with you instead of waiting around.

| I've never really put that much thought into what goes on at the gym. I usually just do my thing and get out of there - if someone's on a machine that I need, I go find another and wait for them to get done. |

| The other day at the gym, I was doing a super-set on one of the machines. This guy got impatient and drugged me using chloroform. I woke up in his van and screamed "WHAT THE DILLY-O IS GOING ON HERE?!?!?" before jumping out and calling the police. Gym is serious business. |

| I wouldn't know about these matters... We don't have any machines here. I usually do squats with a horse on my shoulders. Be grateful for the machines you have, and don't bicker over those minor issues! |
